Infants and Toddlers:
|
|
|
- Infants and toddlers
(children under age 2) will be kept on a flexible schedule which reflects the
growing baby’s changing needs.
They will be
given individual attention including lots of time for communication. The body
position of your infant and their location in my home will be changed
frequently. “Tummy time” will be provided for exercising non-mobile
infants.
- SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome:
SIDS is the
leading cause of death in babies after 1 month of age (National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development).
- Back sleeping is the safest sleep position for your baby
and provides the best protection against SIDS.
- We have taken SIDS
training, and those who serve as substitutes or back up providers have been
oriented on these procedures as well.. At the time of starting your infant we
will talk about SIDS.
- While your infant is in my
care he/she will be placed on his/her back to sleep, unless there is a
Doctor’s written statement advising me otherwise or unless the
infant is able to roll over by it’s self.
Your baby will
always be checked on often while sleeping.

- Kaye’s House will provide
a safe crib or playpen with a firm, snug fitting mattress. Infants will not be
allowed to have any pillows, quilts, comforters, stuffed toys or any other soft
items while in the crib or playpen.
- If a blanket is used, the infant will be placed at the foot of the
crib with a thin blanket tucked around the crib mattress, reaching only as far
as the infant’s chest. Your baby’s head and face will stay uncovered during
sleep by randomly checking on the infant. To prevent SIDS it’s best to not smoke
before or after the birth of your baby, and don’t let your baby overheat while
they are sleeping. I encourage everyone to work together to make sure all
caregivers to your child know to place babies on their backs to
sleep. Please tell your baby’s grandparents, aunts, uncles,
friends, babysitters, and anyone who cares for your baby about the safe
practices for infants.

Children
over 2 years old:
|
|
|
- Children ages 2 and above
will be put to sleep on a 2" foam mat with a sheet (pillowcase type) which fits
tightly over the mat. The children are assigned mats to use, and the sheets and
mats are washed and disinfected weekly by Kaye's House (unless there is a need
for it to be cleaned sooner). The children should bring their own blankets to
use for nap times and they need to be taken home once a week and washed by the
parents. Our nap time is between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. If the children take
shorter naps or
- If they don't nap, they
may get up and do something quietly until the other children are awake. All
children under the age of 5 are required to have a rest time of at least 30
minutes a day, even if they do not sleep.
